STEP 1: If possible, remove yourself to a non-contaminated area immediately before beginning decontamination. Use the buddy system, one person decontaminating another person if possible. Locate radioactive material with radiation detector (sold separately, not provided in basic kit) if available. Remove any contaminated clothing and place in yellow rad-waste bag.

STEP 2: Remove packet containing examination gloves (4 pairs are provided). Carefully put on one pair of gloves and assemble sprayers to bottles. Minimize contamination of the kit and its contents if possible.

STEP 3: Decontaminate (as described below) your partner's hands first, then have your partner put on a pair of exam gloves. Remove your exam gloves and have your partner decontaminate your hands. Put on the N95 particulate masks included in the kit (4). Put on a new pair of exam gloves provided and continue decontamination. Decontaminate small areas at a time and discard each rad-wipe in the rad-waste bag after use. Do not reuse rad-wipes as this may spread the contamination. Handle the orange plastic side and wipe using the white absorbent side. Place used rad-wipes in the yellow rad-waste bags.

  1. Spray on a generous amount of BLUE BORDER LABELED Quick Decon™ Mass Effect™ solution (Transition Metals). Let stand for a few seconds but DO NOT LET DRY!

  2. Aggressively wipe and dry thoroughly with the plastic-backed (orange) rad-wipes provided. Be sure to wipe up ALL solution since any Quick Decon™ Mass Effect™ solution left on the surface may now contain radioactive material.

  3. Dispose of rad-wipes in rad-waste bag provided. Attach included "radiation material" caution tags to bag.

  4. Repeat steps A-C with YELLOW BORDER LABELED Quick Decon™ Mass Effect™ solution (Actinide Metals). This will be necessary if the elemental type of radioactivity is unknown.

  5. Repeat steps A-D if necessary. When finished, dispose of gloves and all contaminated clothing and materials in rad-waste bags provided.

  6. Label rad-waste bags as "Radioactive" using tags provided and put the rad-waste as far away from personal contact as possible. Call authorities for removal.

  7. If possible, remove yourself and any treated surfaces to a non-radioactive area in order to limit possibility of recontamination.

Note: Do not use the Quick Decon™ Mass Effect™ solutions on open wounds or around eyes and do not ingest solutions. See MSDS sheets for First Aid measures and other important product information.
